Harrison Ford to Star in a Star Wars Spinoff?

Let me first say that despite John’s adamant insisting that he is the biggest Star Wars fan around these parts, it is I who am the big Star Wars fan. I didnt dislike the prequels as it is so trendy to say. And I am excited about new Star Wars projects in hopes that we will see more Star Wars movies and shows. I love everything about them all! (Except Medichlorians and JarJar)

That being said, Movies Online breaks this news.

Turns out that Lucas had approached Harrison Ford recently to star in a new Star Wars spin off. MSN Entertainment is reporting he was offered $47million to take on the role but turned it down.

HOLY CRAP!!! A Star Wars Spinoff??? WITH Harrison Ford. I nearly peed myself before I got to the part where Ford turns it down. I am happy to see there is more Star Wars stuff being considered.

Its already been announced that the new CW (formerly WB Network) has signed an agreement for 100 episodes of an original Star Wars TV show being shot in Australlia with all new cast that will take place between episodes 3 and 4. This is rumoured to be ripe with character appearances from the Star Wars continuum but will revolve primarily around a whole new set of characters. Its unlikely considering the timeframe that any of the classic Trilogy characters will reprise their roles as cameos, but it is likely they will appear as different roles in tribute. I expect Mark Hammil to show up and most people to not recognize him.

So we know THAT project is not the spinoff that Lucas was approaching Harrison Ford for recently. There is no way he could play Han Solo in that timeframe, least of all star in it. And to give him another role just wouldnt be right.

So considering my assumption that if Harrison Ford is being considered for a Star Wars spinoff, and that he must be playing Han SOlo in it, what could this project be? Could this simply be an idea Lucas had, tossed out to Ford and got shot down?

Could this be a “further adventures of Han Solo”? I mean Peter Mayhew could use the work, but after the events of Return of the Jedi, I couldnt imagine a storyline that didnt include the whole cast in some way.

Despite all the naysayers I’m still all itchy for more Star Wars, and always will be. Maybe after (IF) they make Indiana Jones 4, Lucas is planning to tease us with Star Wars. Then he can say there is a script, there isnt a script, they are close to a script for another Star Wars Movie.

He is just setting the groudwork for that rumour mill now.
