I had a conversation this morning with another movie website editor and we were just sort of gabbing about the upcoming Oscars and who we thought was going to be nominated for what (I just love these subjective conversations). Anyway, as we were talking about the “Best Supporting Actor” category, a name come up out of nowhere that NO ONE… and I mean NO ONE seems to be talking about. He was SOOOOO good in his role, that no one even stops to think about him. Ken Davitian… the guy who played Azamat Bagatov in the movie “Borat”.
You remember Ken… he’s Borat’s producer who travels with him across America and shares in one of the funniest scenes in film history with Cohen. He didn’t do one single line in english in the film, and he was soooo good in the role, that most people don’t even think he’s an actor. They just think Cohen got some Kazak entertainer to play the role. But nope… it was Ken.
Cohen was amazing in Borat… no doubt. But you know what… when I really stop to think about it.. I think Ken Davitian was even better. Davitian won’t be nominated for an Oscar this year, and that my friends is a DAMN DAMN DAMN shame. The problem is, he was so good, nobody noticed him. Well Mr. Davitian, we here at The Movie Blog salute you sir for a job well done. On Oscar night, when they announce the winner for Best Supporting Actor, I’ll just hit MUTE and imagine them saying your name sir. You deserved it.
