There are talks about a 24 movie, based on the popular television show of the same name and it looks like Keifer Sutherland will be involved if it works out. Here he is talking about it from the good people at comingsoon.net and craveonline.com:
It’s something that we really, really want to make. The real key difference would be that the 24 hour film would be a 2 hour representation of a 24 hour day. It would be the first thing that we didn’t do in real time. Mainly, you have to understand, we’re making two episodes every three weeks. We would have three months to make a two hour [movie]. And actually be able to do a film that really has a conclusion, I think would be really exciting not only for us to make but I think for an audience as well.
It should also be added that they will be using all of the show’s content for the movie. A 24 movie is an interesting thought, it is a very popular show, original concept, good acting, great writing and strong direction.
However this movie has some problems already that I can see. Since it will not be shot in real time there will be a large difference between the look and feel of the film and the TV show and……a lot of people love the real time aspect about the show. Also if they are using elements of the TV show series plot that poises a problem on a few fronts. First it might discourage people who do not watch the series if there are going to be all sorts of inside references and secondly it could date the movie for the fans of the show, if they rent it in a year or two it will not be appealing if it has old plot points from a few seasons ago.
Of course it might work out great. The shoot will be much longer, so there will be way more rehearsal time and the actors know each other so chemistry won’t be an issue. It is also encouraging that Sutherland is so entheusiastic, with his name and the success of the show it will have potential to do very well.
