M.Night takes on Avatar: The Last Airbender

I used to be an M.Night Shyalman fan. Sixth Sense, Signs and Unbreakable are still some of my favourite movies for their originality and unexpected plot twists. Unfortunately he got known for his twists, and by the time The Village came about, he didnt stand a chance of being taken seriously. So after Lady in the Water turned into such a bad movie for him, where does he go next?

MovieHole says:

Night’s next movie will be a kid’s movie! Called “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, it’s based on the popular Nickelodoen kids TV series.

According to Variety, Night has inked a three-picture deal with Par’s MTV Films and Nick Movies to write, direct and produce the potential kids franchise.

Nick TV’s “Avatar,” which is set in an Asian-influenced fantasy world permeated by martial arts and magic, follows the adventures of the successor to a long line of Avatars who must put aside his irresponsible ways and stop the Fire Nation from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air nations.

Now my kids watch that Avatar: The Last Airbender show and its pretty good. I could see this getting a feature film treatment and getting the kiddies all lined up. Its no Pokemon in popularity, but its decent stuff.

I am going to assume this is going to be an animated project, but with the visuals and special effects in this movie, it would be groovy to see it live action.

Now there seems to be some side fighting over the rights to the name, but Fox assures us they own the title Avatar.

Oh M.Night, you had a good run, but you have to pay the bills. Have fun with Avatar: The Last Airbender.
