Nichol Kidman is someone who comes up often in posts about new leading roles but not so much when it comes to producing, that is about to change with her new part in producing and starring role in the film Rabbit Hole. The good folks over at movieweb.com gave us this on the story:
Nicole Kidman is set to star in and produce the drama, Rabbit Hole for Fox Searchlight and the actress’ Blossom Films.
The film is the bigscreen adaptation the Broadway play by David Lindsay-Abaire; he’ll also write the screenplay. Variety reports it’s about a happily married couple whose lives are disrupted after an unexpected tragedy and the intensely emotional, redemptive journey they must undertake to regain happiness.
. The film has no production schedule lined up at this time. The original Broadway version of this had Cynthia Nixon in Kidman’s role and from the reviews I’ve read on the play it seems like this could end up being a bit of a downer movie.
True some plays that have gotten mixed reviews because of somber themes do quite well on the screen. But for this particular play turned movie it seems like the makers would really have to work at putting some cheery Hollywood spin into things, and considering that the same person who wrote the play is penning the screenplay that seems unlikely.
Maybe it’s just me but family tragedy movies just don’t get me out to the theater. Let’s hope Kidman produces (and stars in) a nice vampire movie next time around.
