Sylvester Stallone just took some heat for talking about the issue of a walled off Mexico. I am often torn about the idea of celebrities talking about political issues. Quite often I just get annoyed by celebrities who get asked a question and go off on some sort of political or world issue topic giving us their two cents worth. I mean… who doesn’t get annoyed by that right?
But then I started to notice people only GENERALLY get upset by celebrities who talk politics or world issues when the celebrities don’t actually share their own opinion on the matters at hand. Interesting.
So I’m going to keep this short and sweet and ask for your input. The question I have is this:
Should celebrities have the same rights as you and I to bring up and talk about important topics that effect our world (and the world they live in and their children will have to live in too), or does the fact that they are famous disqualify them for giving their thoughts and opinions?
Some people criticizes U2 front man Bono for becoming a crusader… but I think the man is an example to us all that if you think something is wrong with the world, then instead os just sitting there and bitching about it… DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Good for him.
My opinion (for what it matters) is that if ANYONE thinks there is something wrong with the world and wants to share their thoughts and opinions on the matter… then more power to them. Doesn’t matter if I agree with them or not. I don’t think Celebrities are any different and shouldn’t lose that right to voice their concerns and thoughts just because they’re “famous”. It’s up to you and me to decide if they’re worth listening to or not… just like anyone else.
What do you think? If you’re a famous person, please refrain from answering, your opinion doesn’t count. :)
