Sleuth has been talked about for some time now and it seems like the talk has begun to start rolling into action thanks to Sony Pictures Classics. They have decided to help out and now the movie is scheduled to start fiilming this month. The people over at movieweb.com give us this:
Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the drama, Sleuth.
The film is a remake of the 1972 cat-and-mouse flick; the updated version will star Michael Caine and Jude Law; Law is also producing through his Riff Raff Productions. Kenneth Branagh is directing the Harold Pinter screenplay that centers on an older writer and a younger actor who spend a weekend trying to outwit each other at the writer’s English manor after the writer learns the actor has been having an affair with his wife.
This is something that I’ve been following with interest for quite a while now. You can see an earlier posting I did about it here.
The plot outline is fun and I think that it would work quite nicely between Jaw and Caine, it’s as follow: On his sprawling country estate, an aging writer (Caine) matches wits with the young hairdresser (Law) who has stolen his wife’s heart.
Michael Caine is going to be playing the opposing role that he did in his youth when the original Sleuth came out in 1972, and he is said to be quite excited about the challenge (as am I). Now that they have the help of Sony Picture Classic I have now doubt that this movie will do well.
Hopefully you won’t have to be a detective to find it in a theater near you.
