Despite popular opinion, I actually really enjoyed Superman Returns. It was not the film I was expecting, nor the film I was hoping for… but it was something different, and I was able to put aside my preconceived ideas of what the film SHOULD be, and was able to appreciate it for what it was… a terrific story. And it was. But let’s be honest… people wanted to see Superman being SUPERMAN. And it sounds like Bryan Singer… and one of his main writers Michael Dougherty… have been listening.
The good folks over at M&C give us this:
SCI FI reports that Dougherty agrees with Singer’s intentions to go all “Wrath of Kahn” with the next film. According to Dougherty, that means: “Let’s take what we’ve already established — we’ve gotten that out of the way — and let’s just make it shorter, tighter and more action-packed.”
The SCI FI Wire savants interviewed Dougherty, and he deftly teased and danced around some critical bits of key news, allegedly the new “Supe” might have more than one bad guy and will be stuffed with more action-packed sequences.
I like that term “Go all Wrath of Khan”. I might have to start using it right along with “No, Go and Routh”.
Now, even though I really liked Superman Returns, I’m just like any other Sci-Fi movie geek. I want to see more Superman doing Superman stuff in the next film. More action, better visual effects, an actual fight would be nice too. So I love the idea of 2 villains. Now I know I usually HATE 2 bad guys in movies… but with 2 bad guys it increases the chances of them giving us at least one that’s capable of fighting Superman. At least we can hope.
