Looks like Popular Mechanics has published their take on the list of the Top Ten F/X Film Scenes of all time. Lets take a look.
CinemaBlend gives the list:
10. The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
9. The Polar Express (2004)
8. Lord of the Rings (2001)
7. The Perfect Storm (2000)
6. Forrest Gump (1994)
5. Jurassic Park (1993)
4. Cliffhanger (1993)
3. Terminator 2 (1991)
2. Tron (1982)
1. Star Wars (1977)

Now for my critique:
10. The Day After Tomorrow (2004) – Why is this above the Matrix?
9. The Polar Express (2004) – This I dont get at all. Motion capture? Who cares?
8. Lord of the Rings (2001) – YES. If there was any emphasis that puts this better than captials, I would have used it. Technology catches up with Tolkien.
7. The Perfect Storm (2000) – No way should this have outranked LoTR
6. Forrest Gump (1994) – Perfect because most of the time you didnt KNOW there was special effects.
5. Jurassic Park (1993) – Made me believe in Dinosaurs
4. Cliffhanger (1993) – So they erased the wires that kept the actors from getting booboos. Big deal.
3. Terminator 2 (1991) – The morphing effect puts Terminator back on the map after a 7 year absence.
2. Tron (1982) – Dated by today’s standards, but incredibly cutting edge.
1. Star Wars (1977) – Easy call. If this WASNT #1 I would have discarded this whole list. Star Wars set the pace by which all other technologies attempted to beat.
PM has their reasons, I have mine.
What would you have added to that list, or taken away?
