The Mummy 3 has been discussed for months on the movie blog and around the web, now it seems there will continue to be talk and not much more with the revelation that Brendan Fraser and all of the major actors are still “in talks” with Universal. What’s that? Just in talks? Yep that’s right, cinematical.com has more for us:
CinemaBlend.com had posted rumors that the Mummy 3 production was struggling not only with getting Brendan Fraser back into the lead, but also with a script that was dead weight and the issue of director Stephen Sommers being replaced by Stealth’s Rob Cohen. Our own Erik Davis pulled Fraser aside on the Inkheart set and tried to wrestle a few more details from him. Now, Universal has responded to all the rumors and confirmed that the principles are all in negotiation to return, and the script will be undergoing a re-write.
All of the principles are in negotiations? That’s funny because I remember a time when Fraser was for sure confirmed…weird. Must be some really big script problems. Universal is standing behind the director Rob Cohen but with this terrible publicity I wonder how long it will be before Cohen is dropped.
In fact if none of the original cast is brought back it wouldn’t surprise me if the whole budget for this movie was scrapped and it became a direct to video corpse in the $1.99 DVD bin.
One thing is for sure, I have stopped worrying about any returns of mummies.
