Word has hit the street that a pretty damn good cast for the upcoming film “Get Smart” (as all of you know is being adapted from the old TV show) has just been rounded out. Steve Carell (Playing Maxwell Smart) is now reunited with his Little Miss Sunshine castmate Alan Arkin (Who just won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor a few nights ago).
Arkin will play Carell’s boss in the film. The good folks over at JoBlo give us this:
Arkin will play the head of CONTROL, the top secret agency that Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) and Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway) work for fighting evil (in this film, Terrance Stamp will play the head of KAOS). “Chief,” as he was so affectionately referred to on the old show, was orignally played by Edward Platt (who actually bears quite a resemblance to Arkin). Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is also in the cast as a new character, Agent 23. Filming on GET SMART is already underway in Los Angeles for director Peter Segal (ANGER MANAGEMENT).
I grew up as a little kid watching the old Get Smart reruns, so that in and of itself makes me excited to see a film version. But this cast is just perfect. Carell will be fantastic as Smart, doing the legend of Don Adams proud, and the rest of the supporting troupe is bang on. This movie has the potential to be a lot of fun. I can’t wait!
