When a news story about a astronaut trying to kidnap her competition for love you know that tale will be a movie and now the saga has been officially optioned. The folks over at yahoo.com give us the scoop:
Granada America has optioned the film rights to a New York Times article on Lisa Nowak, 43, who was arrested Monday and charged with attempted murder. Granada America, which has produced made-for-TV films based on other real-life personalities, optioned a Times article written by reporter John Schwartz, who will serve as a researcher on the project. CEO David Gyngell said Friday. “One could not imagine a more compelling story.”
Well I have to admit this would make a good movie. I’m curious to know more details, and since no one was killed or seriously injured the cooling off period of the news article can be shortened. This does seem very soon but in reality if this production company did hop on the option someone else would have.
Would I see this movie in theaters? I don’t know, first reaction is no. So it’s good that the company producing this specializes in movies of the week. If someone else had picked it up they may have tried it in the theater but I think the best company got this story.
I am sure though that NASA is about ready to blast off from all of this bad publicity. NASA “where we let crazy people fly our space shuttles”.
