Britney Goes Bald

Usually when we talk about music stars here on the Movie Blog its typically to complain about how they shouldn’t be given starring roles in movies. Today on CNN we hear about Britney’s latest activities.

Salon owner Esther Tognozzi said Spears appeared at her shop late last week and announced she wanted all of her hair cut off. Tognozzi said she refused to do it and tried to reason with the singer.

At that point, Tognozzi said, the singer grabbed some electric clippers and went to the back of the shop and began cutting her hair off. All Tognozzi did was “even it out,” the salon owner said.

Later, Spears was at a San Fernando Valley tattoo parlor, sporting her newly bald head.

Britney Spears is in full on publicity mode. Its likely not news to anyone who has been awake for more than an hour that Britney has been spotted in a Tattoo parlour sporting a new shaved head. The only other female star to really pull that off well was Sinead OConnor. Even Natalie Portman still retained her hotness with a shorn cranium, and personally I think it works for Britney too.

So all these news sources claiming Britney has “lost it” and they are already claiming her career is over. Remember, this girl idolizes and consults with Madonna about her public image. Madonna, no slack to public contraversy, has maintained a solid career for over 20 years fading and blowing away the music charts.

My prediction is this: Britney hasn’t been in the media for a while that was truly about her career. She needs something to keep her in the public eye. Now she is done making babies and has discarded her sperm donor so he can be free to explore his rap career. (KFed? Call Vanilla Ice so he can consult you on your failed attempt) Brit is building up a mass appeal that has her on the lips of every news service. There is no such thing as bad publicity.

She goes on party benders without panties with Paris Hilton. She visits strip clubs in outfits that make her stage costumes look modest and tries on the strippers outfits just for fun. She then checks herself into rehab, only to walk out a day later. Shaves her head and gets a couple tattoos.

Its publicity. She walks out of rehab and shaves her head? Then gets tatoos? Sounds like a staged publicity stunt to me. Especially when her radical hair cut was met by her hairstylist trying to talk her out of it, and she calmly does it herself. Then she runs off to a tattoo parlour and gets two very small delicate tattoos in discrete places.

Yeah, real dangerous there.

I look forward to her next album (she has a remix album out now with one new track), and I wont be the least bit surprised when she signs another movie deal despite her first failed attempt. Oh wait, shes already in pre-production for “In the Pink” with Tim Allen (Tim is an executive turned Mary Kay salesman) alongside Cher and Bette Midler. Bet she wears a wig.
