Johnny Depp is never one to shy away from death; he has walked the walk in Dead Man and dove right into the fire in From Hell. So it should be no surprise that his new choice in films is in the gothic theme, How the Dead Love is an Animated movie made for an adult crowd. Our friends over at cinemablend.com give us this on Depp’s dark love:
Depp has signed up to do an animated film called How the Dead Love. The film will be based on four short stories from the work of Charles Bukowski, blended together into a single film…The movie is directed by Gabor Csupo, who has produced things like The Simpsons, Rugrats, and The Wild Thornberries. But Csupo says How the Dead Love is not a family movie. He insists that it’s an animated movie for adults, in the vein of the 70s Fritz the Cat cartoons.
Depp will be providing a voice for How the Dead Love’s main character. This sounds good. I like that Depp is so into the darker side of films, even cartoons. I am curious how a movie entitled How the Dead Love will be at all like Fritz the Cat, which, by the way, is a very funny comic that is worth checking out.
Are they saying it will be dirty? That would be alright as long as it wasn’t NC 17 dirty. Actually I really like the idea of a cartoon made specifically for adults, not the “adult movies” but a cartoon that is adult themed. Because with all of the cartoons on television these days it is pretty obvious that a great deal of them are catering to the adult market anyway.
With the exception of The Family Guy direct to DVD movie and the long awaited, still not out Simpsons movie I can think of very few that are PG or over.
This could fill a demand that is not being taken care of. And putting Depp’s fantastic voice behind any character is always a great idea.
