When a person makes a film there is often a hope that the movie will move and inspire people, with the new French film Days of Glory, the filmmakers may be responcible for inspiring a very large movement in France. The poeple over at yahoo.com explain
:”Days of Glory” up for nine prizes at France’s Feb. 24 Cesar awards and nominated for best foreign language film at the Oscars a day later tells the story of Muslim soldiers from France’s North African colonies who risked their lives during World War II to free a country that treated them as second-class human beings.
The muslim soldirs were treated so badly in fact that they even got lower pensions than their French counter parts, even though they did the same job. But because of this movie, in just the past few weeks veterans have finally been getting equal pay. Filmmaker Rachid Buchareb adds this:
“This is what the film was for,” director Rachid Bouchareb said, adding that it wasn’t just the money. “What is important is the recognition that they were part of it.”
Buchareb is also trying to get the veterans the previous pay owed to them.
It is stories like these that keep me believing in the movie industry. Sure we have the BloodRayne’s out there but it is good to know that there is real work about important issues, and they actually make a difference
The full article on yahoo.com is worth reading, it goes into great detail about how this film is effecting the youth of the France, giving them something to be proud of, now that they know a little more about their history. When people can learn from past mistakes and take pride in righting wrongs, then the human race can start moving forward in this world. Good for France for recognizing a need for a change.
Let’s hope this isn’t the only movie this year that inspire such a movement.
