Jennifer Garner will be producing a new film called Devil in the Junior League. The good people over at cinemablend.com give us the scoop:
Jen is producing the film and may possibly star in it. It’s not clear which role she’d take. Variety says she’s signed up for a riff on the old Pygmalion story. Devil in the Junior League. It’s an adaptation of a book by Linda Francis Lee.
Here is a description of the film: a stuffy Southern Socialite whose husband runs off with another woman and her money. Broke and desperate, she turns to a lawyer who promises to get her fortune back in exchange for helping his socially inappropriate wife get into something called the Junior League.
At this point I don’t think too much of this movie, it seems a bit demeaning towards women, and the plot has been done a thousand times. It is like Miss Congeniality with Garner, no thanks.
But there is another film that Garner is producing that sounds a lot more interesting, it’s called Sabbatical. Here’s the plot:In their seventh year of marriage, a bored married couple decide to take a break from one another for two weeks. Problems arise when the wife returns home to find her husband has gone missing. Sort of a mystery/sexual adventure? If Garner stars as the wife it could be her first mature film role…ever.
I wouldn’t count out Jennifer Garner yet, sure she has had some bad movies lately but she is talented, strong and is branching out into producing, which is a smart move for any actor to do.
Devil in the Junior League is not my cup of tea, but I still have hope for Garner.
