This is a great story and I hope you guys read this whole thing. As some of you may remember, a few weeks ago I put up a story (that you can read here) about how I believe that Ken Davitian (the dude who played Azamat from the Borat Movie) was hands down and far and away the very best performance by a supporting actor this year.
It’s hard to argue (although we’re all entitled to our own opinions), when Ken was on the screen in that movie, he totally 100% made you believe in the character. Most people still don’t even realize that Azamat is just an actor… and therein lies the total brilliance he brought to the character. But i digress… here’s where the story gets interesting (for me anyway)…
When I wrote that article, Chris, a long time Movie Blog reader who lives in LA wrote to me and said “Hey John, that was a great article you wrote on Ken. As a matter of fact, I know him! Wanna meet him?” (Apparently Ken had read the article I wrote about him too). At first I thought the dude was pulling my leg. But sure enough, yesterday I went to Hollywood and Highland to a restaurant that Ken owns there called “The Dip” and Ken came by to meet with me! Let me tell you, it was a TOTAL THRILL!
Ken sat down with us for over an hour telling stories, laughing, and answering a hundreds questions I was dying to ask him. I’ve met a bunch of famous people doing this Movie Blog gig, but I can honestly tell you folks, I have never had the sheer pleasure of meeting anyone as gracious, humble and engaging as Ken Davitian. He was a total joy to hang out with. THE DUDE EVEN BOUGHT MY DINNER FOR ME. What a guy!
Ken told me a couple of great stories that you guys gotta hear… but I won’t tell them to you, because Ken has agreed to come on THE AUDIO EDITION and tell you guys the stories himself!!! I suddenly can’t wait to get home and do the next show! Anyway, for now, here’s a pic that Chris took of Ken and I last night. Yes I’m meeting with studios and have gone to some fun screenings and done a lot of other stuf while down here, but I can honestly tell you guys meeting Ken was by far the highlight of my trip, and made the whole trek down here to LA worth it. I guess that’s just the movie geek part of me showing. :)
