Yes, I admit it. I was one of those guys who just LOVED Lake Placid. It was a simple movie that was a lot of fun and I enjoyed every minutes of it. “Was that some sort of homosexual joke” HAHA! Gold! The cast of the film was wonderful too. Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Oliver Platt, Brendan Gleeson, Betty White… man she was especially funny.
Anyway, following in the new trend of direct to DVD sequels that have little to nothing to do with the original and replaces the whole cast… here comes Lake Placid 2. The good folks over at Moviehole give us this:
That quick-snapping crocodile of “Lake Placid” is making a comeback to town waters. Dave Flores (“BOA Vs Python”) is directing the sequel, which against pits a populace of innocent [and some not-so-innocent] folks against a crocodile that lurks in the local lake. Superman’s pop, ex-“Smallville” star John Schneider, will this time be left with a pair of scaly boots by films end. Co-starring with him, Cloris Leachman (“Beerfest”) and newcomer Chad Collins (“Legion of the Dead”).
Yuck. Don’t get me wrong, I like John Schneider and all… but what made the first Lake Placid so much fun was the cast and characters… not so much the Croc. A sequel with NONE of the original cast back isn’t even a sequel, and thus not really worth my time. Too bad, I loved the first one so much!
