The fantastically successful and totally opposite films Little Miss Sunshine and The Departed were two of the biggest winners for The Writers Guild Awards this Sunday. The good people over at yahoo.com give us more on the story:
William Monahan won the adapted-screenplay prize for “The Departed,” Martin Scorsese’s saga about rival moles who have infiltrated the police and a crime gang. The film was based on the Hong Kong thriller “Infernal Affairs.”…With his debut script, Michael Arndt received the award for original screenplay for “Little Miss Sunshine,” Arndt and Monahan are nominated in the same categories for Feb. 25’s Academy Awards. Both films also are competing for the best-picture prize
This is great, both films are fantastic in their own ways and I couldn’t agree more with the wins. Only problem is…who should take home the Oscar for best picture? I wouldn’t want to be the one voting between those two.
They are both nominated for the above categories as well so with any luck, whether or not one outdoes the other for Best Picture they will both take home Oscars on February 25th.
