A whole bunch of people got all excited the other day (including myself) when a rep from Fox said they had just signed Sacha Baron Cohen to do Borat 2 (let’s face it, with all the money the first one made, no one was surprised to hear that really). But hold on a second! According to a new statement put out by Fox, there are no real plans for Borat 2 just yet.
Yahoo News gives us this:
Hours after News Corp. Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch told reporters on Thursday that British comedian
Sacha Baron Cohen had signed a deal to make a sequel to his hit movie “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan,” a studio spokesman said the idea was merely under consideration.“We’re eager to work with Sacha again, and we’ve had casual discussions about a sequel, which we’d love to do, but at this point, it remains too preliminary to discuss,” said Chris Petrikin, a spokesman for News Corp.-owned 20th Century Fox.
Personally, I think we will see a Borat 2, but at the same time I won’t die of shock if we don’t. Think about it… the novelty of the outrageousness of Borat has worn off a little bit now (you can only carry a schtick so far) and the fact of the matter is that most people in the civilized world know exactly who and what Borat is now. Fooling the average person isn’t going to be so easy next time around. I’d like to see an Azamat movie… but I’m a bit biased now.
Still, I LOVED the first Borat so much I’d be game to see another one regardless. I’m curious to see what they do with this. What do you think? Will they make another Borat film? SHOULD they make one?
