With all the fuss and contraversy over the Lord of the Rings Prequel, The Hobbit. We have resigned ourselves to the fact that Peter Jackson just wont be doing it. I don’t think it is a bad thing provided they get someone who will be true to the material, and make it a fitting prequel to the work Jackson did with the Trilogy. Could that be Sam Raimi?
A Blogspot site dedicated to Bruce Campbell rumours:
“In a move that would have ramifications for several major multi-nationals, and millions of fans, ‘Spider-Man’ maestro Sam Raimi has been telling associates, as well as his corporate masters at Sony, that he is thinking of directing ‘The Hobbit,’ the prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien’s masterwork, “The Lord of the Rings.” At least two top-level insiders – who declined to be named — have heard the words out of the director’s mouth…. A call to Raimi’s office was directed to his agent, Richard Lovett, at CAA. The agency did not comment.”
Do I think it HAS to be Jackson, no. Do I think it should be Raimi? I dont know.
This was rumoured here on TMB back in November, and also a comical post recently about how Lord of the Rings would be different with a different director, Sam Raimi was mocked.
Sam Raimi
– The ring can be destroyed with the magic words Klaatu verrata nectu (or something like that)
– Frodo has a chainsaw and is played by Bruce Campbell
– Almost all actors a relatives of Sam Raimi
– The only car seen in the film is there for a purpose
– Frodo and Sam get the order to destroy the ring not from Gandalf himself but on a tape.
Raimi is accomplished, and I do enjoy his movies. It hasn’t quite sunk in to try and imagine him doing the Hobbit. Maybe he will do so good that people will wish Raimi had done the originals? Or will it be mocked like the Star Wars Prequels simply because it couldnt hold up to Jackson’s work.
If the rumours ring true, would you be excited about Raimi directing?
