I’ve got to admit that I wasn’t the biggest fan of Scanners. Yes yes… i know David Cronenberg directed it, but that doesn’t necessarily make it good. I realize the movie has it’s fans… but for some reason I just never got into it.
Well, if you’re one of those fans, the following news may excite you… or really piss you off. Looks like a remake of Scanners is in the works, and apparently they’ve signed up Saw 2 and 3 director Darren Lynn Bousman to take the helm. The good folks over at Movieweb give us this:
The film is the remake of David Cronenberg’s Scanners; David Goyer is writing the screenplay for the remake, which revolves around a scientist who infiltrates an underground movement of ‘scanners,’ whose telepathic abilities make them lethal weapons, says Variety. The Weinstein’s are hoping for an early 2008 production start for Scanners and a late 2008 release.
Man, the Weinstein’s are becoming the master of the quick turn around movies. I’m guessing they’re aiming for a low budget, quick turn around porject with a built in audience that won’t need to make big Box Office dollars in order to turn a profit… and you know what… they’ll probably get it.
