George Tillman Jr. has signed on to direct The Siege of Fulton Avenue; a true story movie about a house party that ended in a 3 hour police stand off. The good people over at cinematical.com give us more on the news:
The film is based on a New York Magazine article Standoff at Rye by David Amsden that provided a hour-by-hour account that luckily ended with only infuriated parents and relatively light criminal charges being laid. Jeff Roda wrote a script and the film is being producer in part by State Street, who were behind the Barbershop franchise, and by Contrafilm
Man and I thought my house parties were bad ass! This almost sounds like a South Park episode to me but it could make a good movie. Tillman hasn’t done a lot but his stuff has been successful (Men of Honor). As far as I know this is Roda’s first produced screenplay so I’m curious how the script turns out. The story is interesting though, and it has potential to be a good movie.
The casting will play a large role in how this film does. Also how the director handles the cast will be interesting since this story revolves around a teenage party, so there could be a lot of moods and hormones on set (I’d like to see the behind the scenes footage).
Should be a challenge. Hopefully one that George Tillman Jr. will be up for.
