Tom Hanks Stars in Levinson Western

I’m a big western fan if done right. I was raised on this stuff. My father still idolizes John Wayne despite the fact that the last film John Wayne was in, was the year my wife was born! So to see this new onset of westerns in Hollywood cropping up just often enough for us not to forget about them, this is really good news.

The western is continuing to make its triumphant comeback in Hollywood. It’s being reported that Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Good Morning, Vietnam) is tackling the genre with an adaptation of Larry McMurtry’s novel Boone’s Lick. You may recall that McMurtry owns an Oscar for his recent adaptation of Annie L. Proulx’s novella Brokeback Mountain. Tom Hanks and Julianne Moore are reportedly attached to star.

The story follows a woman (Moore) who takes her family on a beat up, old wagon from Boone’s Lick, Missouri to a Wyoming fort where her husband is stationed. Hanks will play the husband’s brother, who falls in love with the woman while escorting her, her four children and her father on the journey.

Tom Hanks is awesome in everything I can recall him being in. I can’t wait to see him in this.
