There was a time when JeanClaude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Dolph Lundgren were kings, they could walk into any bar, restaurant or strip club and live it up while signing autograph’s on every t-shirt and chest that came their way. Well apparently they miss those days and are planning a threesome of 80’s power in a feature film. The people over at moviehole.net have more on the story:
According to andPop.com, highly-intelligent action hero Lundgren, no doubt spurred on by his “Rocky IV” co-star Sylvester Stallone’s big-screen comeback, is trying to convince old pal Jean Claude Van Damme (his co-star in “Universal Soldier”), as well as 80s action king Chuck Norris, to team up for a three-hander. “You know, I was thinking today, it would be great to make a movie with the 80s action rat pack – Jean Claude and a few others. There are issues with schedules and age and so on, but maybe I’ll be the one to make it happen”, Lundgren, who recently announced his interest in doing another “Universal Soldier” movie, too
So the tough guys of the eighties all together for a movie in the 2000’s? You know what? This could work, if they had the right amount of self deprecation and left over ferocity from their muscle bound youths this could actually be really fun. The movie Space Cowboys comes to mind, with Clint Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland and James Garner, it obviously had a much higher caliber of aging tough guy but still… that worked alright.
Will this? Well…probably not, but if it had great writers and a decent direct it’s possible, these guys did have a lot of fans for a while, and they all had screen presence, if not talent. I am going to keep an open mind when I watch the trailer for this (if this idea ever gets made that is).
