Beyond The Gates

Beyond-The-GatesYesterday I had the privilege of talking with David Belton, producer and the man who co-wrote the story for the film “Beyond The Gates” which opens in limited release in the US this Friday. Unfortunately, the audio file of my conversation with him became corrupted and I can’t play it for you, but I wanted to highlight this film for you guys and draw your attention to it.

Based on a true story. An exhausted Catholic priest (Hurt) and a young idealistic English teacher (Dancy) finds themselves caught in the 1994 Rwandan genocide. They must now choose whether to stay with the thousands of Tutsis about to be massacred or to flee for safety.

David talked to me about the impact the situation in Rwanda made on him (he was there as a journalist) and the commitment everyone on the film had for “keeping it real”. In particular David mentioned to me how hard director Michael Caton-Jones worked to keep the film as authentic as possible and resisted “hollywoodizing” the story.

Personally, I think this film looks magnificent and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Take a look at the trailer below.
