It seems the return of the Middle Aged Buddy movie is upon us. Back in the days of moving comedies like City Slickers, we saw a wonderful story about men finding out direction in their otherwise meaningless empty lives. Now we have Wild Hogs, a very similar format.
The story–as scripted by Hollywood newbie Jordan Cahan–involves some thirty-something yobbos who break the monotony by raiding the posh yachts of their corporate bosses and taking to the seven seas, yo ho, and thereby discover the meaning of manhood. So: think “Office Space” meets “City Slickers” crossed with “The Crimson Permanent Assurance.”
No word on whether Adam Sandler will be involved. Coraci most recently directed the Sandler vehicle “Click,” and also helmed “The Wedding Singer” and “The Waterboy.”
Now this is not your typical pirate movie, but it sure does have a great twist on piracy of the high seas. And while it might have a tiny big of Fun with Dick and Jane about it, I really like the concept.
It also sounds very much like something Adam Sandler would do, and that is why I hesitate to like the idea of him in it. Oh sure, I think he would do a wonderful job. And it is very likely the kind of project he will scoop up and have a blast with. Screw it, now I can’t think of anyone BUT Sandler spouting one liners and robbing his own boss.
Along side William H Macy. You need the out of place “straight guy” to ground his antics. That would be awesome.
