The next installment of the harry Potter movie franchise, “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” is set to start shooting this summer… and guess what… they’re going to have to find a new Hermione Granger, because apparently Emma Watson has quit. Done… she’s out. Well… at least according to The New York Post:
Watson, who has played Hermione Granger for the first five flicks, told producers she quit – and wouldn’t change her mind even when they offered to double her pay to nearly $4 million, according to a report in the Sunday’s News of the World.
“Emma doesn’t want to do it anymore,” Potter portrayer Daniel Radcliffe, who has signed on for the rest of the series, told the paper. “She’s tired of being known as ‘that girl from Harry Potter.’ ”
Watson’s apparent last appearance as the feisty Granger is slated for this July with the release of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” The next chapter, “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince,” is due to start filming this summer, leaving Warner Brothers scrambling to find a replacement.
Holy freaking smokes. That’s pretty huge news. But honestly, even though I know a bunch of you may rip me a new one for saying this… i think this would be a pretty good move on her part. She’s pretty hot right now (popularity wise) and if she really does want to branch out and be known for more than Harry Potter, this is a good time to make her split.
If this is actually true, then it’s a pretty damn gutsy move… and one that I think will pay off for her in the long run. I don’t think there would be anything wrong with her staying with the franchise… but I applaud this move. She’s made a lot of money, helped make the franchise successful, and set herself up for future success. I fear if she doesn’t cut the cord now… she may always just be Hermione.
