L.A Confidential 2

La-ConfidentialI never saw L.A Confidential in theaters. It honestly just didn’t interest me that much at the time. I finally got around to seeing it about 4 years ago. My parents had picked up a copy of it, so I borrowed it one day. DAMN that’s a good flick. I mean hell… look at the 3 male leads. Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce and Kevin Spacey! Are you freaking kidding me!

Anyway, as I said the movie blew me away. Now the buzz is they’re talking about a direct sequel to the film. The good folks over at Moviehole give us this:

No, I’m not talking about “White Jazz”, the forthcoming Joe Carnahan-directed adaptation of the James Ellroy book, even though one could say, I guess – because it features a couple of the same characters – that that too is sorta a sequel. But in this case, I’m referring to a straight-up pick-up-where-we-left-off sequel to Curtis Hanson’s “L.A Confidential”. Same folks, Same smokes. True.

TMZ reports that Hanson and Brian Helgeland are already in talks with Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce to reprise their roles. Says the site, “Insiders tell TMZ that the Curtis Hanson and Brian Helgeland sequel being discussed wouldn’t rely on the plot of White Jazz, but simply pick up where L.A. Confidential left off: With Lt. Ed Exley (originally played by Guy Pearce), a rising star in the LAPD, and Officer Bud White (originally played by Russell Crowe), now an ex-cop who lives with an ex-whore.”

I’d love to see another L.A. Confidential. No, not because of the story (which was finished in the first one), but rather because I really loved the characters. Just give me a decent story to throw them in and give me more of these characters. Especially the Crowe and Pearce ones. To me, that’s usually what determines if I’m interested in a sequel or not. That… and boobies.
