Serenity Special Edition DVD

Serenity-CaseFlat out I’ll just say this right up front. I thought Serenity was a frigging wicked moive. The mail strength of the film was its dialog (which is rare for a sci-fi / adventure movie) but its visuals and adventure elements were top notch to and really helped propel the story forward. Some great twists and REALLY unexpected events always kept you on the edge of your seat to.

BUT… despite being loved by fans and critics, the movie (or several unfortunate reasons) the movie absolutely bombed at the box office (at least compared to how well it deserved to do) pretty much sealing the fate of any future Serenity movies or TV shows. There are many unhappy browncoats out there let me tell you.

However, there is one little glimmer of good news for all you Serentiy fans. It looks like there is a Serenity Special Edition DVD on it’s way. Our good friends over at Filmjunk give us this:

it looks like he’s giving the Browncoats at least one more thing to look forward to in the near future. A special edition DVD of Serenity is in the works, and to be honest, I’m not that surprised considering the existing Region 1 DVD is a bit thin on extras. (Thin for a movie with as rabid a following as this one, at least.) The box art I have attached is not necessarily what the new package will look like, but it was taken from the Australian DVD release of Serenity, which also has a bunch of extra goodies that will most likely be included in the S.E. (such as a Joss Whedon Q&A Session, extended scenes, script to screen featurette, tour of the Serenity ship, and an expose on cinematographer Jack Green).

Yeah, this is one I’ll be buying the day it comes out. Such a damn shame there won’t be more of them. Sigh.
