As anticipation for the new Simpsons movie begins to swell, there is a small problem. The good folks over at Cinematical give us this:
The AP reported that Mexican voice actors for the series were threatening a boycott. Actors had ended a strike in 2005 over hiring practices on the condition that they were promised the film. Gabriel Chavez, who is the voice of Mr. Burns, told the Mexican newspaper the El Universal, “Gentlemen keep their word,” and that if the studio does not keep it’s word that they will provide the voices for the film, then “there will be a boycott across Latin America of the film.”
I’m REALLY torn over this. First of all… I think only weak pathetic morons threaten or try to organize boycotts of movies (Don’t get me wrong… if certain groups of people decide they themselves don’t want to see a film en mass… that’s fine… but to try to get the public to skip a movie for whatever your own little agenda is total crap… like the idiots trying to get a boycott together for The Hobbit unless Jackson directs it).
I also don’t like threats or people who make them.
HOWEVER… at the same time, I can understand why these actors would feel pissed if the studio promised them the movie… and then didn’t follow through (please note, it hasn’t been confirmed by anyone other than these actors that such a promise was made). So I don’t know how I feel about this one. All i know (or care about) is that I can’t wait to see this thing. Hope it doesn’t let us down.
