By now most of you know that the newest Tim Burton (probably the most overrated director in film today) film with is regular crew of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, Sweeny Todd, is already in production. However, a slight snag has hit. Johnny Depp has been forced to leave the set and production is on hold. The good folks over at JoBlo give us this:
The British tabloids are reporting this morning that production on TODD has been halted while Depp cares for his sick daughter. Lily-Rose, 7, was admitted to a London hospital earlier this month for an undisclosed illness and was, according to reports, in “serious condition.”
The Sun is reporting that because Depp is the star of the film, there’s only so much filming that can be done without him and if he doesn’t return soon, the production may need to be put on hold indefinitely.
Ok, a couple of thoughts here. First of all, putting a film on “hold” costs a studio hundreds of thousands of dollars a day. That’s not chump change. Also, keep in mind that all these actors and crew members have OTHER movies and projects they have to attend to when this movie was SCHEDULED to finish… so putting a project on hold can really wreck your whole production schedule when crew members and actors have to leave before you’re done your movie. This isn’t a small thing.
But this reminds us that there are things in life FAR MORE IMPORTANT than movies. Johnny Depp has all the money in the world, and even though it’s being reported that his daughter is doing better now… his place as her father is by her side, and I think he is to be admired for that. No matter what else is going on… he needs to be there.
So let’s all hope her a speedy full recovery. And let’s also hope Johnny can get back to set soon.
