Tobin Bell Back For Saw 4 and Saw 5

Tobin-Bell-JigsawI’m not a big fan of the Saw series, but they’ve been pretty fun for what they are (except I really didn’t care for Saw 3 very much at all). Still, they’ve been pretty good escapism movies come Halloween time if nothing else. On the plus side, I’ve enjoyed Tobin Bell as Jigsaw quite a bit. But he pretty much died at the end of Saw 2… and the stretched logic a bit to have him back for Saw 3… where he REALLY dies at the end. So they can’t have Jigsaw back for Saw 4 or 5 can they? Well… this is Hollywood.

According to the good folks over at Moviehole, Tobin Bell is saying he is indeed back fro Saw 4 and Saw 5:

The actor tells ComingSoon.net that he has no idea how they’ll bring back Jigsaw – if it is indeed Jigsaw they use, and not his evil twin brother – for the next instalment of the corn syrup-drenched franchise. “It’s difficult for me to comment on something I haven’t read so I don’t know what they’re going to do or how they’re going to do it. Hollywood’s amazing; they come up with all kinds of ways to accomplish things. If I knew I’d tell you, but I don’t. In some ways, it’s a blessing.”

Ok, hold the phone. How the hell do they rationalize brining him back for another Saw movie? The way I see it there are only 3 options:

1) They’re prequels – I don’t see them doing this since they’ve already pretty much covered his history as the Jigsaw killer in the first 3 movies. After all… he’s only been killing people since he found out he was dying… and that wasn’t long ago.

2) Flashbacks – This is what I think they’ll most likely do. Another character will assume the Jigsaw mantel and there will be several flashback segments in the film with Tobin Bell. I don’t like this idea, since his only real protégé was killed in Saw 3.

3) They Get Supernatural – Maybe they’ll change gears on the Saw Franchise entirely and go supernatural. “Jigsaw was so consumed by evil that it brings him back to life to continue his gruesome work”. Man… that would really be jumping the shark… but they just might do it.

So of those 3 options… which one do you think they’ll use to have Tobin Bell back? Or do you think there is a 4th option?
