I resisted ever watching Smallville for it’s fist 3 seasons. Honestly I thought it looked like a dumbed down O.C. show… just with one of the characters being Superman. However, I ended up watching one of the episodes one night in season 4 and got kinda hooked on it. And yes, I really do think Tom Welling will be a big star someday. The dude has a pretty solid screen presence.
But let’s be honest here… as much potential as I think he has… his first “lead” in a film was a total disaster (that mess of a remake “The Fog“). Not only was the movie ass awful… Welling himself was pretty poor in it. Oh well… chalk it up to just being his first movie.
But now word is flying around that a Teen Wolf remake (of sorts) is in the works and Welling may be the man. The good folks over at JoBlo give us this:
Apparently a remake of the 80s “classic” TEEN WOLF is in the works, and Dark Horizons says SMALLVILLE’s beefy Boy of Steel Tom Welling will have a part in the flick. But what’s even more curious than Welling getting more movie parts after the tragic remake of THE FOG is that he’s reportedly not the hirsute moon-howler — word is this new TEEN WOLF is… a wolfette. We can only assume she’ll play hoops, or at least cheerlead for the basketball team. Welling will probably play some sort of dreamy hunk, speculation mine.
This has “Bad Idea” written all over it. First of all for Welling.. this is a HORRIBLE idea. After the disaster of “The Fog”, Welling needs to appear in something solid next. No, it doesn’t need to be Shakespeare, but good god… a TEEN WOLF movie? Flush any hopes of a career after Smallville goodbye.
I personally still believe in Welling despite tripping up in The Fog. The dude has potential. But all the potential in the world won’t help you if you make bad choices. I hope this doesn’t come to fruition.
