Tony Soprano vs. Batman

James-GandolfiniThe cast seems to be pretty much set for the next installment of the Batman franchise “The Dark Knight”, but that won’t stop the casting rumor mills from churning out all the latest whispers. This latest one that is out has me more than a little curious actually. The good folks over at Moviehole give us this:

Also being tipped for a role in the movie is “Sopranos” legend, James Gandolfini. No doubt he’d be playing a… gangster. Right?

I think everyone would agree that the tone of the new Batman franchise is one that James Gandolfini would fit into perfectly. A bit of a typecast no doubt, that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work. The guys is a strong actor to boot, and that’s never a bad thing. However…

All the major roles seem to be filled, and can any of us really see Gandolfini taking a glorified cameo role in the film at this point? I don’t think so. The “bad guy” roster is already pretty full, so I’m not sure where he would fit in or that this rumor is true. Still, I guess bad guys in Batman movies are like an Italian family… there’s always room for one more.
