The other day I saw a webisode called The Landlord With Will Ferell, Adam McKay, and McKay’s daughter. It is a funny and apparently was a kick off video for their new website FunnyOrDie.com – we get the scoop from “Yahoo.”:
FunnyOrDie also features user-generated comedy videos, allowing anyone to upload their clips. But unlike YouTube and other popular user-generated sites, the viewers’ ratings for the videos determine their fate — thus the name of the site — with only the highly rated staying on. Those with negative reviews are banished to the “Crypt” section of the site
More and more video sites are popping up, and many will fail because YouTube is a household name and is the goto site for vids, and has Google backing. FunnyOrDie however is a great idea. It focuses only on comedy, sends boring videos to the trash-heap, and has all star backing and content.
I just found out about YOUPORN last week, and now FunnyOrDie launches; It will be interesting to see if theme focused video sites have better results that those that are generalists. I can tell you that I am excited to see WIll doing skits online. He was beloved on SNL and was the reason many tuned in during his tenure. I have no doubt that his talent will bring similar magic to FunnyOrDie.
