Raja Gosnell has signed to a new Disney film called “South of the Border” Raja is better known for his work on the critically acclaimed Scooby Doo and the family movie Yours, Mine & Ours.
The live-action movie chronicles the adventures of Chloe, a pampered Beverly Hills Chihuahua accustomed to riding in a purse. While on a vacation in Mexico, she gets lost and must rely on her friends to help her get back home.
Gosnell has some experience with chatty critters, having directed the “Scooby-Doo” movies.
This sounds like it might have some real entertainment value. For the kids. Mine will eat this stuff up like crazy. Oh sure, it’s not going to win an Oscar, but face it. You get a movie with talking REAL animals in it and the 4 year old is glued to the tv until the credits roll. Then he will watch it again.
I also like that the primary character will be a Chihuahua stranded in Mexico. Lots of potential for gags when the locals assume she knows something simply because she is “one of them”.
Yahoo also suggests that this is right up Gosnell’s alley with all his experience with Scooby Doo, but aside from being a family movie, I doubt you can compare to making Scooby talk with a movie making real animals talk.
Whether I like it or not, this will likely end up in my collection.
