I am a big fan of TV’s Smallville. That being said, I honestly like how they are portraying Oliver Queen, known to the rest of the world as The Green Arrow. Now it looks like Goyer is trying to take the Green Arrow to the big screen, but its not the same character we might recognize.
Here’s a small clip of what he had to say: “Super Max” is Goyer’s take on supervillain incarceration in the DCU. Revolving around a wrongly convicted Green Arrow being whisked away to the super max prison for out-of-control heroes and villains (where he’s forced to face a number of inmates he put there), Goyer says the flick-which he’s developing with writer Justin Marx-isn’t just a Green Arrow film.
Personally, I think this would be a GREAT movie idea. Just not with Green Arrow.
I mean, the basis of the character is on light martial arts and an ungodly knack with a bow. So you put him in prison with a bunch of supervillians and heroes who have lost control, and see how he does? Green ARROW is about his bow. That’s what makes him so cool. You honestly think the guy would have a bow in prison?
Put the same story with another minor DC character and this will be one hell of an action movie. But to use this as a Green Arrow plot overlooks Arrow’s environmentalist agenda – a strong theme throughout that title – and overlooks the likelyhood of him using a BOW.
The plot does smell a little of Tango and Cash, but it is a good idea. Just not for Green Arrow.
