Through our associates at JoBlo we learn that production on the video game based movie HITMAN has begun in sunny Bulgaria! Here is the plot synopsis they provide of the film:
Agent 47 (Olyphant) has been educated to become a professional assassin for hire, whose most powerful weapons are his nerve and a resolute pride in his work. 47 is both the last two digits of the barcode tattooed on the nape of his neck, and his only name. The hunter becomes the hunted when 47 gets caught up in a political takeover. Both Interpol and the Russian military chase the HITMAN across Eastern Europe as he tries to find out who set him up and why they’re trying to take him out of the game. But the greatest threat to 47’s survival may be the stirrings of his conscience and the unfamiliar emotions aroused in him by a beautiful, damaged girl.
Video game movies have not yet had a breakout success. On paper they should be great, but are never able to form into something that is very exciting. I know a lot of people were fans of the Hitman video game, we will see how many of them come out to see this when it is in theatres.
I am not thrilled by the plot outline. I have seen a lot of movies where people lose their memory and now they are being chased. I don’t know if the story follows the video game here, but it sounds like shit. The only thing that excites me about the story is that it takes place in Eastern Europe. Eastern Europe is a hard place with no smiling, laughter or joy in the world of film. I hope at some point in the movie the Hitman is raised by Gypsies, or goes to battle with Hungarian Wolf Magicians.
