News out today that Joe Johnson will not be directing Jurassic Park 4. Speculation is now swirling like a tornado that Spielberg may step up to the plate and direct dinos once again. The scoop is made available though slashfilm:
Jurassic Park III director Joe Johnston won’t be returning for the fourth film after all. Representatives for the director were adamant to MTV.com that Johnston is “definitely not directing [Jurassic Park IV].”
But lets not forget that Steven Spielberg told Sky News last year that he would helm the film if Johnston didn’t. So will Spielberg keep his word and step back up to the plate?
I consider it good news that Johnson dropped out of the project. Not that he did a bad job on Jurassic Park 3, but given the choice I would much prefer Spielberg. Spielberg has a deep love for dinosaurs (you can see it in his mysterious bearded face). Now Spielberg has not yet announced that he will direct J4, someone else could get tapped to do the project if Steven is busy. But if his feelings a year ago (when he talked to sky news) are the same as today – he may be preparing as we speak.
Spielberg is a god damn work machine. This dude has more money that all the Pharaohs of Egypt and probably puts in more hours than a single mom at an Indonesian sweatshop. This is a guy that loves what he does and has a drive to tell stories. If it were a 1000 years ago he would be a legendary storyteller around the campfires of kings, that is why I want him to direct Jurassic park. He tells all kinds of stories, from Schindler’s List to The Color Purple – but still feels it worthwhile to recount tales of giant lizards that once walked the earth.
