It was only a matter of time. Almost everyone I know has a social networking page – if not three. Among youth it is as common as having teeth. We now see a film about this phenomena – we get the news and description from movieweb:
Dean Shull and Shahrook Oomer’s Catchphrase Entertainment will produce and direct the upcoming comedy, MyTop8: The Movie.
The duo also wrote the project, centered around a slacker who decides to take a road trip across the country to meet his “cyber” friends from the Internet as well as various ‘Net celebrities from YouTube, Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites, says Variety.
Shooting for this film will begin next month, and I am wondering how it will be received. People seem to have a love/hate thing with social networking sites. On one hand we are on them all the time, on the other we hate that we are on them all the time. I wonder if people would rather go see the film or just stay at home and get another 90 myspace minutes.
As an internet enthusiast myself I am starting to wonder if so much online time is a detriment to the socialization of humans as a species. Is the speed at which we get information and entertainment going to break down our attention span even more than television? Will the convenience of online dating ruin the chance of working through normal relationship issues? Has internet porn addiction turned us all into perverted sex crazed hump – junkies?
There is enough interesting stuff to make a good movie out of this. We will have to track the progress to see what angle they will tackle this idea. Right now I am guessing a road comedy starring Hillary Duff – we shall see.
