No Lips For Optimus Prime

Optimus-LipsWhen the last trailer for the upcoming Transformers movie came out… everyone seemed to love it except for one small thing. Optimus Prime had lips. Most people HATED that. Now, I didn’t mind it… especially considering that it was obvious his face guard was going to be in place most of the film anyway… so I was ok with it. But man… some people were ready to write off the whole movie just because of that (which is pretty lame in my opinion… even if you hate the one thing).

However, it appears OPTIMUS PRIME WILL HAVE NO LIPS in the movie. The good folks over at Joblo give us the following:

Michael Bay must have feared for his life after the internet erupted in fury over Optimus Prime’s lips in that now infamous TRANSFORMERS TV spot, because now he’s come out saying that the clip isn’t even in the movie and that it was just a test shot. There was this on his official website:

“The unreleased ad (Prime speaks) that was posted on youtube was a test that European were making with the ads. The clip where OP was “speaking,” lets just say that it wasn’t OP or Cullen speaking. It was something the European studios added on their own. In fact, it was a test shot.”

Now that statement opens up a whole mess of questions. The biggest of which is “was that REALLY just a test shot… or did Bay just recoil after the huge backlash”? Personally, I believe it was a test shot. Bay doesn’t recoil (that can be good and bad at the same time).

I’m glad the lips are gone… but I honestly still wouldn’t have been bothered by them being there fora couple of shots in the movie. It would have made zero difference. Even if you didn’t like them… it would have been just a short time on screen and they they’d be gone… and once again it doesn’t effect anything to do at all with the essence of who the character is. But all other things being equal, yeah… I’d vote for no lips. rejoice.
