With Pirates of the Caribbean 2 taking in well over a BILLION (said in my best Dr. Evil voice) dollars world wide, you can forgive the studios for being willing to open up the purse strings a little more when making the third installment of the franchise. But even with a franchise like Pirates, you’ve got to exhibit SOME sense of restraint don’t you??? I guess not according to what we’re reading over at the IMDB:
L.A. Weekly columnist Nikki Finke reported Wednesday that final work on the film has not yet been completed. She quoted an unnamed source as saying, “It’s a race to the wire for all the special effects. But, in its current state, it’s quite spectacular.” Finke claims that the budget for the film has already exceeded $300 million “and that’s just what Disney is admitting to privately.”
Three Hundred Million Dollars?!?!?! Good grief. Looks like they not only forgot how to edit (reports are that Pirates 3 will come in close to 3 hours long) but they’ve also forgot how to budget. Whatever… it’s their money… and as I said it’s not as if they’re not going to be making the money back.
But the movie still isn’t done yet? We’ve been hearing rumors for a while now that they were quite far behind schedule, and we even speculated that was the reason behind the marketing machine for Pirates 3 was so far behind the marketing efforts of Pirates 2 last year. Looks like those theories were correct. They’ll finish on time, don’t worry.
I just hope they make Captain Jack the daring rouge pirate with great quirks that he was in the first Pirates movie… and not the stupid joke cartoon character that they made him in the second one. One can only hope.
