Saw 4 Story – As if the Story in Saw Actually Matters

The Saw franchise has been ok. I actually liked the first one more than most people… I even didn’t mind the second one… but the third on I totally could have lived without. But man… they sure have been milking this Jigsaw thing as much as they can haven’t they?

I mean come on… it was already a bit stretch having him come back for Saw 2… and having him in Saw 3 was just ridiculous (at least to me it was). And so you say to yourself (if you watched saw 3) “there is no way they can bring the original Jigsaw back for Saw 4”. Well… yes they are. Milking that character for every last second they can. The good folks at Moviehole report this:

”Jigsaw still haunts the living in “Saw IV,” forcing them to appreciate life, or face death. As a continuation of “Saw III,” Jeff must find his daughter and escape the building to which they are confined before they both die. After finding another tape of Jigsaw, Jeff realizes there may be a newly added piece of the puzzle that he must decipher before it’s too late.”

The biggest problem I had with Saw 3 was that it totally abandoned its identity and went for being a “Hostel” type movie instead. The first two films (even with all their flaws) had legitimate psychological fear and were frightening at points. But Saw 3 wasn’t any of that. There was no “fear”, there was nothing “scary” about it. It was just gross. Gross is fine… and it has its place… but when you try to pass off just showing the audience gross stuff as legitimate “scary” stuff… it falls apart. That’s what Saw 3 did… fell apart.

So now here’s Saw 4. Still clinging to the original Jigsaw… and undoubtedly will just try to ramp up the “Gross” factor in an attempt to pass it off as scary and trying to one up Hostel 2. Shame.
