Time Magazine Does The Movie Blog

Movieblog-In-TimeTime Magazine (yeah… THE Time Magazine) has an article in the newest issue entitled “Boys Who Like Toys” That is basically about the new Tastemakers in Hollywood. The Time website describes the article like this:

“There’s an unlikely new superpower in the world of film”

The new superpower in the world of film they’re talking about isn’t the newest studio… but rather the growing influence of internet based movie pundits (like us). Here’s a quick excerpt from the article:

“They’re the new tastemakers,” says Avi Arad, a producer behind this summer’s Spider-Man 3 and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. “Hard-core fans represent a small piece of the viewing public, but they influence geek culture, journalists, Wall Street. You don’t want them to trash your project.” If these fans embrace a project, as they did 300 and Heroes, they can kick-start a hit. Who are they? Typically they’re John Campea, 35, of Toronto, who founded The Movie Blog as a hobby in 2003…”

The article specifically mentions 4 sites in particular. The Movie Blog, our fellow Canadian website Joblo, our good friends over at the fantastic Cinema Blend, and AICN.

The most impressive thing about such an article being written in a publication like Time Magazine is that fanboys like all of us who write and read these sites (and the many others like them) are actually being noticed in the upper echelon of the Hollywood machinery. What YOU guys say here on The Movie Blog and other like minded sites IS BEING READ AND NOTICED. This is a huge shift from just a few years ago and the shit is going to continue.

The point here isn’t that sites like The Movie Blog are being noticed…. it’s that the people who read and participate in sites like The Movie Blog are being noticed. That’s YOU guys.

The issue comes out this week (that’s the cover to look for). And oh yeah… I’m the ridiculous looking geek dressed in the Jedi outfit in the article. We did a 6 hour photo shoot to get that picture (no, I’m not kidding) and I’ve got to admit it was a lot of fun.
