One of the biger cinematic disappointments for me so far this year was the highly pumped and anticipated film “Zodiac”. The film about the serial killer that terrorized California (well… at least he wasn’t a lite-brite of a cartoon character giving the finger) and remains one of the largest “unsolved” crime sprees in American history.
It was one of those movies that you walked out of feeling like you were supposed to have liked it… like it was art that you just didn’t understand… but the bottom line was you were bored to death by it. It’s disjointed (the movie flips main characters more then Brittany Spears changed public images), can’t seem to follow any of the concept it raises, and then worst of all it’s nothing but a bunch of talking without suspense or mystery. Just talking.
Turns out I’m not the only person who felt that way. The good folks over at Filmwad give us this quote from the Cinematographer on Zodiac:
‘”I was concerned about the amount of non-cinematic information that had to be conveyed onscreen. There was so much exposition, just people talking on the phone or having conversations.”‘
That’s movie speak for BORING, and it was.
