There just aren’t enough positive things to say about the first 2 Terminator film. Both were just jaw droppingly fantastic films that I’ve loved since the first day I saw them. The third Terminator movie got a lot less love from people… but in general I thought it was a fun flick, although really not up to the standards set by the first 2.
Anyway, we’ve all known for some time that another Terminator film (Terminator 4) was being developed. Well it’s just taken a turn. A new film development company by the name of “The Halcyon Company” has just bought all the rights to the Terminator franchise… and they’ve got plans for Terminator that include a new trilogy of films. The good folks at coming soon give us this:
Terminator 4 will be based on a script by John Brancato and Michael Ferris and is envisioned to be the first film in a new “Terminator” trilogy. Halcyon plans to immediately begin pre-production on the new film. While as yet no distribution agreement has been set, Halcyon anticipates that “T4” will be ready for release in the first half of 2009, if not earlier.
I know I’m in the vast minority here… but I think more terminator film exploring different elements of the Terminator “mythology” could be very cool. It’s time to break away from Arnold and let the Terminator story (which on a basic level is a really good one) stand on its own and not be reliant on the star power of 1 (now over aged) guy. I think this could be great.
