I was just commenting recently on the comedic genius of Mike Meyers and his run of Austin Powers movies. I mentioned that these movies generated less buzz as the trilogy went on, but how I still enjoyed the movies. And Mike Meyers is still the ONLY actor I like to see doing multiple roles in the same film.
Now as if Meyers heard me,MovieHole says:
While working the junket rounds for the May 18th release of Shrek the Third, Mike Myers let it slip that another Austin Powers film was in the works. The actor admitted that he has a plan for the sequel, saying “There is one that we have an idea about. The only thing I will say is that it’s entirely from Dr. Evil’s point of view. It would be the first of his trilogy.”
When asked if a trilogy might be too daunting of a task, Myers replied, “That was a joke. I just love the bluster of saying that it’s a trilogy. Yes, it’s a twenty-five part series. No it’s not. I’m just joking.”
Ok, so the trilogy part was Myers being funny, which he does well. But you know if this movie is a hit, 2 more won’t be out of the question. The interview also touches on other projects he has in the works such as Sprokets and The Love Guru. If this is any indication of his work schedule, we might not see Austin Powers for a while.
However I do like that this will be more of a Dr Evil movie. In the last movie we discovered that he and Austin were actually brothers so perhaps Dr Evil will go good and team up with Austin and fight the good fight, or maybe this will be a Dr Evil movie without Austin at all. A new superspy for Dr Evil to tussle with would be funny too.
Its open for a LOT of different ideas, none of which have been exposed as of yet. No word of MiniMe either.
At very least we know there will be a movie. But will it be an EVIL movie?
