It looks like David Yates has been locked up for the next round of Potter before his him has even seen the silver screen. We get the scoop from sci fi wire:
David Yates, director of the upcoming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, confirmed to SCI FI Wire that he will return to the director’s chair for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth film in the blockbuster franchise. Yates, the British director best known for the U.K. miniseries State of Play and The Girl in the Cafe, is currently completing Phoenix, based on J.K. Rowling’s fifth Potter book, and had been rumored to be attached to Prince.
“I am doing Half-Blood Prince, and I’m doing it because I love the world, I love the characters,” the BAFTA-winning director said in an interview. “I think I have more business with this world and these characters.”
I will have to see if this is good news or not. I really liked the work Mike Newell did on Goblet Of Fire and really hoped he would of been brought on again. I was very pensive when they switched director’s in the Potter series of films. I have come to like the switching now – It is interesting to see how each director brings their own flavor to the table while the sets and actors remain the same.
When a dude is locked up before the film is released, that is usually a good sign. The studio must of liked the work Yates did enough to tie him down stat. With just a few more to go in the saga, it will be interesting to see if Yates is able to scam the remaining contracts.
