This news is straight out of bizzaro land. It appears Mike Mitchell, the guy that directed Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo will be directing the fourth installment of Shrek. We get the news from the caves of Yahoo:
Mike Mitchell will direct “Shrek 4” for DreamWorks Animation. He isn’t a stranger to the world of animation, having directed a “SpongeBob SquarePants” episode this year.
Penned by Tim Sullivan, the fourth installment will chronicle the continuing adventures of Shrek and his buddies.
I am not a huge fan of the Shrek series – but I will have to see Shrek 4 just to see what happens under the direction of Mitchell. It is awesome that he has ventured out to get some animation directing under his belt. SpongeBob is a great cartoon and would be a blast to work on. I love cartoons and when done well – you can get away with murder (ala South Park).
I am sure he is a competent guy, and Shrek 4 will probably do fine in the box office. It is just funny that to me that the guy who did Deuce is now doing Shrek. For me, this is like Jenna Jameson doing a movie with the Olsen twins. It could happen – but it is out of left field. I hope Rob Zombie does the fifth installment.
